Project 3: Sensory Space

In project 3, we looked back at our Isolation Structure (project 2) and further developed it into a sensory space by extracting our main element and principle.

For my third and final model, I derived the main element and principle from my project 2 model, which are shapes and hierarchy. As seen on the model, the shapes I used are square/rectangular columns/pillars. Together, they form walls that created a tunnel-like space. The type of hierarchy here is hierarchy by placement, and it is shown in the second space. The second space (on the right) represents freedom since it is more open; movements aren't restricted, giving the user more space to roam around. There's a reclined seat where the user can relax and lean on. By this point, they've reached the end of the journey.

The journey is that, the user walks through the dark, tunnel structure, feeling scared and trapped. The rectangular blocks attached and hanging from the ceiling only serves to reduce the space that is already narrow, emphasizing the feeling of being trapped. When the user reach the end, light will filter in through the 1x 1 meter square glass panels, giving a sense of hope. Once the user reach the end of the tunnel, they will feel a sense of freedom.
